Bouldering is rock climbing stripped down to its essentials. Leaving behind ropes and harnesses and just using climbing shoes and a bag of chalk over safety mats, your challenge is to climb short but tricky bouldering routes, or sequence of moves, using balance, technique, strength, and your brain.
Climbing is a fun and exciting way to exercise! It will improve your health as well as your confidence. It involves a combination of strength, balance, flexibility, endurance, and focus. It is a great mental and full body workout! This wonderful sport is one that can be shared by the whole family. It's enjoyable for active kids, teens, and adults alike. Our wall is open to members for free climbing during our office hours. We also offer drop in passes and punch cards available for purchase for none members. Youth are allowed to climb under adult supervision or with our staff during workshops or classes.
Our wall is open to members for free climbing during our staffed hours. Monday - Thursday 9-5:30, and Friday and Saturday 9-12. We also offer after hour climbing times under the supervision of our Wall Director, Dusty Pena. Contact him to schedule after hour climbing.
Access to the climbing wall is included with regular gym membership and we also offer drop-in passes and punch cards available for purchase for none members. Youth are allowed to climb under adult supervision or with our staff during workshops or classes.
Our climbing wall is also available to rent for private climbing time or group parties. Rate is $50/hour and includes a short training and instructional time for beginners and kids.
Our bouldering room is rope free and has 12 ft wall sections including straight and steep overhang sections. Four walls create a variety of climbing routes labeled with colored tape to show the pathways. Routes range from beginner to advanced.
Safety mats are provided and must be used at all times. Climbers must use appropriate shoes (many sizes available to borrow) and must follow gym safety rules.
Our wall director and trainer is Dusty Pena. Savage Bouldering Wall was created with the help of Dusty's hard work and vision. He worked closely with our team to create the design, routing, and overall planing for the bouldering room. The routes and holds are updated throughout the year providing more options and diversity in the wall.
Dusty has been climbing for 38 years. He has climbed all over the United States, Asia, Australia, New Zealand, and Europe. His favorite climbing areas are Yosemite, south west desert Utah and Australia. Dusty started training specifically for rock climbing with the advent of sport climbing in the early 90’s.
Anyone can rock climb and we built the rock gym at Savage Strong to introduce the Salmon community to the sport of rock climbing. Our gym is user friendly, whatever your experience level, so come give it a try!
Dusty is available to help with climbing basics and after hour climbing. He also runs our Adult and Teen climbing classes.
Bouldering wall is open during our office hours for free climbing for any gym member. Drop in passes available for purchase.
